Intro
From Hackathon to Product
HomeCart started as a 5-hour hackathon project in May 2026. The idea held up after the clock stopped, so I kept building.
Since then, I’ve taken it further on my own: sharpening the concept, rebuilding the brand from the logo up, and reworking the features we’d only had time to sketch.
Context
AI grocery assistant for new comers
What happens when the most stressful part of moving countries turns out to be the supermarket?
HomeCart is a mobile app with AI features built to answer that question: one that explores what grocery shopping could look like for someone starting over somewhere new: familiar, not overwhelming, and just a little closer to home.
Problem
Everything looks unfamiliar
When you move to a new country, the grocery store becomes a wall. Products look unfamiliar, names don't match, measurements are different, and asking for help every time isn't always an option. Immigrants often can't answer basic questions on their own: What is this product? Is it similar to something I know? What can I buy instead? How do I use it?
Solution
Your personal AI grocery guide, in a new country
HomeCart acts as a culturally aware grocery assistant. Scan a product, search by text, ask by voice, or upload a photo, and instantly get an explanation of what it is, how it compares to something from home, and what to buy instead. Features include product scan, AI text search, voice search, image search, equivalent finder, brand recommendations, onboarding by language and country, and history across shopping trips.
